I take your Rutger Hauer and raise you a Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Liam Neeson.
Though the important question is really whether Christian Bale is any good. Must sit down and watch "Reign of Fire"; it's on my to-be-watched list anyway.
The other important questions are whether Michael Caine and Rutger Hauer are having off-days or not.

I'm more fascinated by the mindboggling amount of sheer crazy that Oldman and Hauer together could produce.

Not familiar with Oldman, but yes, Hauer can do the sinister (if it's not an off-day: he wasn't that good in Buffy The Vampire Slayer (the original movie)) and the creepy.

Though I acutally prefer Hauer when he's doing the (anti-)hero than the villain. Probably because his villians are too scary!
