Actually the Hello Kitty doesn't burn the picture into the toast; it makes toast, leaving selected areas untoasted. Which is fun etc. but usually if my toast isn't brown all over I put it back to cook again...

It burns parts of the surface to form a pre-determined pattern. What would you call that, if not burning a picture into the toast?

It'd be niftier if it could vary the burn intensity to create shadings.
