Random observations and ponderings while screencapping Buffy season six...

  • In Wrecked while Willow is floating near the ceiling, you can see part of the tattoo on the small of Alyson's back.
  • In Hell's Bells, there are two individuals wandering around in the background of the wedding reception who look an awful lot like Grey Council minbari, with their grey robes.
  • Also in Hell's Bells, there are at least two vengeance demons present who aren't Anyanka or Halfrek.
  • [Poll #187839]
  • Tara is a lot more self-confident now than she was back in season four.

Tara just seems like so much of a mother figure to Dawn that probably even if they started making out on-screen I wouldn't--oh dear, Calle's fainted. *dashes cold water in your face* ;-p

No, I can see that too. And I don't think Tara has anything but motherly feelings for Dawn. It's just that bit where Dawn maneuvers Tara into the couch and snuggles up to her that looks like a little bit more than ersatz mom for Dawn.

I answered 'No', but then I see Dawn projecting admiration, liking and the need for a stable adult figure in her life onto Tara. Dawn's currently sharing a house with a secretive sex addict and a junkie, neither of whom are exactly stable. Tara's pretty much the only adult around in this season, and she isn't there all the time. Sadly. (Of course, this is where I link Buffy to Enid Blyton's Famous Five, vis a vis absence of adults allowing the children to have adventures, but that's another theory. With or without bunnies.)

I also like to think that Tara likes Dawn (not in the slashy sense) too, and they simply have a good time together. Since Spike and Dawn's relationship (brother/sister?) gets completely overlooked in this season, I'm glad there's something else there.

Basically I agree with you. But I think that at the specific scene where Dawn lures Tara into the sofa, Dawn is sort of unconsciously experimenting with her own limits. She knows that Tara likes her, that Tara likes girls and that Tara will never actually respond in a sexual way to Dawn -- so making a light pass at her is a safe way for Dawn to try and see where her own limits are.

Hadn't thought of that and I can see that it's possible. Hmm, something else to think about when re-watching S6.
