My vote is for "hinder" rather than "help". As communication gets more important, lag and latency in it will grow more noticeable. We are today at a level where routing Internet connections over satellite links isn't viable, since it introduces too much latency on the connection -- and the source of the latency there is the time it takes a radio signal to reach the satellite and come back down again, a time that's exceedingly unlikely to get shorter in the overseeable future (short of aliens giving us ansibles).

The further into space you get, the worse the communication lag gets, and the further distanced from mainline society the travellers get. I don't expect space travel to be popular at all.
