Unfortunately, few firms go to the trouble of explicitly hiring a scapegoat. More common is: "we know this project is in hopelessly deep trouble but we want to deliver our tiny part on time because they are looking for a scapegoat and for business reasons the boss would prefer that it is not us". Said boss has this love of companies with huge problems and lots of money to throw at them
It is of course all about helping them with their problems. It just gets frustrating at times that the real problem is so often non-technical.
