"We rebooted and rebooted and rebooted and application STILL no workie. Huh? What is this strange 'manual' thing of which you speak, weird person?"

"Oooh, lookie, thick bunch of shiny paper with words on them say that application no supported on Solaris 9! Maybe that why it no workie!"

I'm so glad it's not one of my machines... And that said cow-orker isn't in my group. Although, if he was I could put on my PHB hat and yell at him for being stupid.

Filling job openings

Remember my rant about sucky job applications? Well, apart from the open position I was ranting about then, I also have an opening for an Oracle DBA. For which I actually have some reasonable applications, but anyway. I'm still not sure what to do about the Storage Admin position. I've been telling my clueful friends to apply, so I can train them.

Anyway, a couple of days ago one of our developers asked if the position was still open, because his kid brother was looking for a new job and he'd done some storage admining. So I said, sure, have him send me his CV or something. Which he did, and I printed it out and put aside to read when I got a round tuit.

Said kid brother is a currently consulting at another company that shares our building, so I just ran into him and we got to talking a bit. And bloody hell, that guy could hardly be more suitable for what we need. Not only has he worked with exactly the same kind of hardware that we have, he's also worked with exactly the same software the storage stuff is providing storage for! In fact, he seems to be better suited than the guy who's about to quit.

Chalk one up for word-of-mouth over job-seeking websites (which is where our Catberts place our job ads).
