So it was time for the next installment of the campaign described earlier. My character (David) had had to flee London after getting a wererabbit pregnant, and ended up in New York. As it turned out, a werewolf I knew (Joshua) had also had to flee there, after he got blamed for the less than heroic death of four other werewolves (deaths that were to a fairly large degree my fault, but luckily he didn't know that). A devil we knew (Devon) was also there, for reasons that never became clear, and Joshua dragged in a local witch (Alice).

I tried to keep a low profile, but that didn't last long at all. The local vampires tried to investigate my background, and apparently got some rather strange and worrying results. Something about me getting girls with child, and repeatedly being mysteriously involved in deaths of pretty powerful critters. The first I learned about by droves of hopeful vampire chicks showed up wanting my babies, shortly followed by their boyfriends wanting to kick my ass. The second I learned about when me, Joshua, Devon and Alice were approached by the leaders for the local infernals and wererats who wanted to hire us to stir up some trouble for the leaders for their rival factions (i.e., the vampires and werewolves).

This was roughly equivalent to asking a barrel full of gunpowder to produce a little smoke and a couple of sparks. Almost every time we've tried to do something together, complete and utter chaos has ensued. We felt confident that if we actually tried to, we could cause a rather substantial mess. After discussing the matter amongst ourselves, we decided that we didn't really like any of the faction leaders, so why not agree to their deal and then try to stir up trouble for all of them?

Enthusiastically, we set to our task. We attacked people and made it look like another faction had done the deed. We spread rumours. We summoned stuff we couldn't control, causing general mayhem. We prodded the power structures of our respective factions, promoting infighting and rivalry. We tried to convince the angels to establish a presence in the city, but only managed to get them to provide Joshua with some pretty serious holy firepower. Eventually, things really blew up. The wererats tried a surprise attack on the werewolves. The werewolf leader went down, but before the rats could push their advantage a bunch of infernals attacked them and the wolves. Joshua rallied the wolves and went to town on the infernals with his borrowed divine power. Meanwhile, I, Devon and Alice were assasinating the infernal leader. He went down, but managed to take Devon with him. Oh well. That done, we joined the werecritters in an all-out attack on the vampires. Since they carried some serious anti-vampire weaponry and I generally didn't expect them to be picky about which vampires they dusted, I kept to the back of the fight. Which gave me the opportunity to waste the really creepy vamp leader all by myself, when she tried to skip out the back way.

By sunrise, it was all over. The infernals were pretty much devastated, having lost every single one of their boss-type devils. The werewolves had lost their alpha male and a good fifth of their total numbers. The wererats was the only faction to keep their leader, but they lost a lot of people. A full fourth of the city's vampires went down, and it was the most powerful fourth too.

Seen from the viewpoint of the lesser vampires, things went something like this: Vampire with strange rep arrives from London. Vampire with strange rep fights a lot of people, and mostly wins. Vampire with strange rep acts cocky towards badass boss vampire. Badass boss vampire orders vampire with strange rep killed. Badass boss vampire and all of her inner circle and top soldiers get dusted. Vampire with strange rep still standing. Lesser vampires conclude that vampire with strange rep must be extremely badass, and they'd better suck up to him a lot.

So suddenly I find myself boss vampire of New York City. My old boss in London laughed himself silly when he heard about it. He assures me that if someone asks him about me (as they're sure to do), all he'll say is that he's glad to be rid of me. Which is quite true, although probably not in the way they will think.
