Calm had fallen over Pelennor Fields. Most of the Gondorian and Rohirrim armies had retreated within the walls of the city, leaving only their healers and the gravediggers to care for the wounded and the dead that almost covered the ground. The healers hurried from body to body, giving a swift end to those beyond help and what aid was needed to those who might get better. The gravediggers were gathered around one of the dead oliphaunts, scratching their heads and trying to think of a way to get rid of the thing before it began to smell.

Today was the final Christmasy dinner thing. It got a bit drawn out due to influenza and things like that. But just as a counterexample to the quite numerous tales of family drama that's passed through my friends page over the last week, I'd like to say that I've had none of that. There's been me, my wife, my mother, my mother's boyfriend (which is a silly thing to call him, since he's well over fifty), my mother's boyfriend's two adult sons, my mother's boyfriend's son's wife, my mother's boyfriend's two-month-old grandson, my sister, my sister's boyfriend, my four-year-old nephew, my six-month-old nephew, my sister's boyfriend's brother, my brother, my father, my father's new wife, my half-brother, my father's new wife's daughter from her first marriage and my mother-in-law and there has been no arguments or hard feelings of any kind whatsoever.

Well, except that I got a bit annoyed at the elder nephew when I had a headache and he kept screaming at the top of his lungs. But that was it.
