Holloway!

Greg Costikyan just announced that Jim Holloway will be doing the art for the new edition of Paranoia. That's great news, and improved my utterly shite mood several notches (which still leaves it at "utterly shite", but, still, it's up).

Of course, now you're going to find you need a really good set of doublewalled stainless cups to drink it out of, then a set of really good double walled mugs for when the elegant cups just aren't big enough... And some proper latte glasses (I find latte tastes better out of latte cups stolen from cafes that gave me bad service...) Then some old-time bearded coffee nazi is going to tease you about buying pre-ground coffee instead of grinding your own, so you'll go out and buy a grinder, only to then be teased for buying a "high speed grinder", 'cause everybody knows they heat the beans up too much as they grind, allowing some of the most important oils to evaporate, leaving you with something that may as well be instant coffee... So you'll be searching for an expensive low speed grinder, when you find out that the "15 bar pump" on your new coffee maker is just a bigger number that the marketing boys wanted to put on the packaging, and the optimum pressure is somewhere between 9 and 10 bar, so you'll spend the next week being late for work because you spend 20 mins every morning trying to adjust your "15 bar pump" down to exactly 9.5 bar, but that'll be OK 'cause when you get to work you'll be bouncing happily from the 4 double espressos you drank for breakfast in an attempt to discern the difference between a 9.2 bar coffee and a 9.9 bar coffee... At some stage someone will try to convince you that the Sunbeam coffee maker just isn't Italian enough, and you really need to go out and buy another one, preferably one made in a commune of ex mob hitmen - with a brass pressure vessel hand beaten out of spent shell casings used only in assasinations of virgins... Cause otherwise the coffee just isn't good enough damnit!
