Pushing Daisies
Dec. 30th, 2007 11:21 pmFor a little while now, Jenny and I have been watching Pushing Daisies (only one episode left, unfortunately). It is... distinctly unusual. The often used description "quirky" certainly fits, it just doesn't feel nearly strong enough. The premise is odd (but not really odder than, for example, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). The characters are definitely on the quirky side. The plots are strongly reminiscent of Dead Like Me (which IMDB claims this was originally conceived as a spinoff from, and I can easily believe that). The visual style is... sort of The Prisoner and Teletubbies run through a blender and spiced with LSD. But most importantly the writing is excellent. I can't remember ever seeing anything else that makes such fantastic use of repetition, for one thing.
Plus, it's been a long time since I've seen couple that begs to be slashed as much as Chuck and Olive.
