Apple do appear to be quite good in this regard; I know of at least one person who had an iBook on order and was told that they'd upgrade the spec of his laptop to match what was just announced at no extra cost which made him quite happy.
And MacOS X is cute; if nothing else being able to use amanda to back up my wife's iMac is highly useful, especially since you can configure it to respond to WOL packets.
