Currently, one of the major Swedish supermarket chains is running an ad campaign for fresh vegetables (yes, really!). The ads are pretty good Photoshop jobs in general, but one of them caught my eye particularly. Not only because of what it looks like, but because I suspect it might have caused rather more comment in certain other countries than it has here (where it has got none whatsoever).

Behind the cut here is a photo of the ad in question. The quality is not the best, since it was taken with my mobile phone in a dark subway station, but it's good enough. I'd like to know what you think the reaction (if any) to it would be where you live. The poll has been set not to show answers to anyone but me, for those of you who don't want it publicly known where you live. I'll summarize later, if there's interest.

[Poll #741673]

Ack...I may never be able to cut onions again. Surely that's not what they were going for....

I may have voted in the first part twice since the first time I forgot to give my country.

For some reason I can't see the answers to the second one - was that deliberate?

And of course if I'd read your whole post properly I'd know the answer to that one...

I hope you're not thinking of using that as your default LJ icon. ;-)

Can't find anything wrong on this end. The URL directly to the image is http://www.cyberpomo.com/images/coop_ad.jpg if you want to try that.

You can't vote more than once in LJ polls. The second time onwards will just change your answer.

I prefer the one with the spring onion (I hope thatäs the right name), myself.

Oh, I found a PDF that has all the ad pictures: http://www.coop.se/upload/modul/coopse/reklamfilm/Skonhet-kommer-inifran.pdf

Oh, man, that's nothing compared to the "Seks om Dagen" campaign they used to run in Denmark! Check out the poster they used:

By comparison, a breast-like onion is pretty darn mild. :)

Oh lord I love love all these adds but they haven't a chance of being used here. You can't even put up billboard ads. for Bras just in case you offend some ethnic or religious minority. Non conformist chapel is still a force to be reckoned with here.

I think that in the states it would be fine in New York City or pehaps another huge city like that.

Otherwise, no.

But it would receive comment wherever.

What does teh text say?

Well, you Danes are even more liberated than us Swedes. :-)

I like it.
