The albums I ordered the other day arrived today (along with 15 meters of wadmal cloth, which is damn heavy) and I've had the time to listen through them a couple of times. So here's a reviewish thingy.

Cinematic and classical, an electro-tribal soundscape featuring two voices. One, the voice of quiet exhaustion as to the current state of life, the other as a wiser Truth-consciousness that runs as the undercurrent.

Quote from Faith and the Muse's own website, about the title track from the new album, The Burning Season. And although it sounds terribly pretentious, it's actually pretty close to what that song sounds like. As usual with FatM, the album is very varied and consistently good. If you've liked their earlier albums, you'll like this one too.

"The good thing about being in a band like the Scary Bitches," says Alma, "is that once I get on stage, I can cause misery to hundreds of people at the same time. It's a great feeling when you're playing and there are people in the audience crying! Someone once suggested that they might actually be laughing, but I can't imagine anyone would dare do that to my face. I know we're a bit eccentric, but we are definitely not a comedy act!"

About the Scary Bitches, from their website. This is the album I ordered solely for its fantastic name, Lesbian Vampires From Outer Space. Given that, I was quite surprised to find that it's actually really good. The music is varied and creative goth rock, with influences from all over (how often do you hear saxophone on a goth album?), and the lyrics are wonderfully insane. They remind strongly of Julie Brown and Tom Lehrer, only with more vampires, monsters and UFOs. Plus, extra bonus for assuming that their audience knows what Creutzfeld-Jacob's Disease is. Apparently they've released an album before this one, No Reflection, which I will definitely be hunting down as soon as possible.

And no, [livejournal.com profile] archbishopm, there are no sexbots.
