Today was even more relaxing than last week, since I had to think even less. I spent our two and a half hours by taking a piece of copper plate and shaping it into an open cone, which introduced me to the techniques of sawing metal and hard soldering. Next week I'll solder the cone to the bowl and polish the result. After that, this piece will be finished.

Interestingly, two of the people on my friends list (you and [livejournal.com profile] shanmonster) have posted about their various metalworking eforts recently. I think the sort of work she is doing is different to yours, though.

More like much further along skill-wise, from the sound of her posting. Setting stones is something you can start doing when you're really sure you're going to get the metal into the exact shape you want. I'm quite pleased that the shapes I get are recognisable as roughly the ones I aimed for, more or less.
