Nethack Tournament

Someone in another forum pointed at the Nethack Tournament. And after looking through the results of last year's tournament I'm now trying to figure out how one of the players then managed to ascend with 25448 points. Yes, that's twentyfive thousand four hundred and forty-eight points. Ascending with a Healer. The few times I've managed to win the game I've been well over a million points, with a high score of about 3.5 million. So I can understand how some extremely stubborn person can reach a score of a bit over 450 million points. But how on Earth can one get as low as 25448?! How is that even possible?
