I just had another "The future is coming too fast!" moment, from being pointed at a site that tells how to build your own Scanning Tunneling Microscope for less than a hundred US dollars. I mean, ten years ago when I was still at university those were big, hulking beasts in the Physics Department, cooled with liquid nitrogen!

The one that gets me every time is the way some of the doors at the university are labelled with warning signs: 'manual door'. I remember when you expected doors to be manually operated.
