archbishopm pointed at Michael Swanwick's Periodic Table of Science Fiction, which is one hundred and eleven (so far) very short stories, one for every element of the periodic table of elements up to Unununium. I've read the first fifteen, and they've so far ranged from amusing to really, really good. Do give it a look.
