It was far from just that scene. I liked the entire episode. The meek little peasant girl suddenly turning badass agent-type babe. Jayne and his gun ("I call her Vera"). Kaylee's and Wash's admiring technobabble about the sabotage. The Inara/Saffron scene was really fun, but somewhat lessened in impact by the knowledge that both women were just acting...
It's nice to know that Inara doesn't even blink at the thought of shagging another woman, though. Actually, everybody's lack of reaction (except Mal, but his reaction seems to be more "Yes, I wasn't the only one who fell for her trick!" than "Woohoo, girls snogging!") when Inara says that Saffron tried to seduce her seems to indicate that Firefly society is much less homophobic than ours.
Yes, I thought so too. Though, come to think of, that's how real people would actually behave (one could imagine in a less life-threatening scenario). Which is one of the things I like about SF.
Depends a lot on the particular people, I'd say. I know from experience that my friends wouldn't react any different than for a hetero seduction attempt, but I'm quite sure that many of my co-workers would react strongly and negatively.
Wholeheartedly agree with you. Moving along, you have Jaynestown and The Message to look forward to. Especially the last scene in The Message, that's art.
