I got another six GMail invites. So if you want one but was too late for the last batch, just holler (or, more correctly, write a comment to this entry). As before, I'll need an email address to send it to.

ETA: None left now.

Yes, it's still beta. And it actually is one of the better mail clients I've tried. The best webmail I've ever seen, by far. Impressively fast for a web application. I'm not going to be using it for my real mail, because my sorting and filtering needs are much more complex than GMail can provide.

Hmm. I'd like one, if I may. My e-mail: yasminm @ livejournal.com. I've been hearing good things about GMail.

I'm curious as to whether you've read about any of the privacy concerns that have been expressed about GMail, and whether you think they have any legitimacy? For example: http://www.gmail-is-too-creepy.com/

I have, and they're garbage. Most of the arguments I've heard have been firmly in the tinfoil-hat camp, and the concerns that are actually valid are equally valid for all mail services where your mail is stored somewhere else than on your own PC. Which means every webmail and ISP on the planet, pretty much. Then only real difference in privacy I've been able to see between Google's webmail service and, for example, Microsoft's (that's Hotmail, in case you didn't know) is that Google has tried to be honest and upfront about what happens to the mail you store with them.

Another way of looking at it: Google has a five-year history of visibly trying to do the right thing and be the good guys. Microsoft has a 25-year history of treachery, unethical behaviour and power abuse. So why are these people writing hate-sites directed at Google while happily using Hotmail?
