Name poll

I'm never sure who I can refer to by name or not, so I thought I'd ask.

I know a few RL people (workmates and family) who don't know that I have an LJ. Or, if they have guessed, they don't know my username. Which is why I lock any posts that describe incidents at work or family visits, in the unlikely event that they stumble upon my journal and recognise me from what's described.

Yes, I probably am too paranoid. I'll probably tell my family at some point, but I'd rather do it in my own time.

I miss one alternative: it's ok to use my given name, but I'd rather you didn't use my full name (that is, no need to make it googlable, or obvious to those who doesn't already know who I am).

Me too.
I mean, I've gone like Judith P and put Kathryn A on my LJ info, so it would be silly to object to that level of usage.

I had intended to keep my RL name separate from my LJ name, but it didn't really pan out that way. It's not really a secret now, I guess.

For reasons as yet unclear to me, I use my real name freely in many online contexts, but am chary of repeating it in LJ. So I've a slight preference that you didn't...

Ireplied even though you probably don't know my real name. ;))

I swore I'd never let my family near my LJ, but recent events (my sister's illness) have resulted in me giving the address to another sister, an aunt and an old family friend. I'm still trying to decide if this was a good idea or not...

As long as none of them tell my mother! Or my other sister, or my brother.

But, yes, I'm okay with you using my name as long as you don't use the entire surname. Judith P is fine (I may decide to use my entire name at some point, but not yet).

Yes, but not my last name, even though it's in my email address (one of them anyway). Same would go for himself's last name, if you know it, as that's even more unusual than mine.
