Party-type thing

And now we're leaving for the yearly crayfish party with my mother, my siblings, mom's boyfriend (which still is a strange word to use for a man in his mid-fiftes) and mom's boyfriend's kids. I usually don't find crayfish worth the bother, but these have been fished the day before yesterday by my brother and boiled today, so they're likely to be pretty good. Far better than store-bought Chinese or Turkish ones, anyway.

I am constantly looking for a viable/catchy substitute. "Boyfriend" and "girlfriend" just start sounding perceptibly progressively stupider every day after you're, like, sixteen.
