Well then...

It turns out that MacOS X is a pretty normal kind of Unix. Which means that setting up my usual writing environment went a lot more smoothly than I expected to, considering that it involves XEmacs, Apache, mod_perl, Mason, XSLT, cvs and PostgreSQL. The only part not currently working is the conversion of fics from XML to PDF, and since I use a Java tool (FOP) for that part it shouldn't be that difficult to set up if I feel the need for it (it certainly should be easier to get working than it was on FreeBSD, anyway).
Which is a long-winded way of saying that I seem to be set to give NaNoWriMo 2004 a shot, after all.
EDIT: Getting FOP to run was damn near trivial, so now the laptop's copy of my website is feature-complete.
