If you were to try to get someone hooked on Xena, which episodes from season one would you show them? It's quite clear, I think, that you really want to get to the good stuff in season two as fast as possible, but without missing the necessary plot (and subtext!) from season one. So, which episodes do you show them? If you have problems remembering which episode is which, you can use the episode guides on Whoosh to refresh your memory.

The first episode of Xena I saw was The Titans, and I became hooked, so I suppose I should go for that.

It would be a lot easier if you were allowed to choose from Season Two. A Day in the Life would win hands down.

Season two has enough good stuff that it can easily be shown in its entirety. The question is how much of season one you need to see in order to properly appreciate season two. Watching A Day In the Life without having any idea who Xena and Gabrielle are would be doing that wonderful episode a great disservice, in my opinion.

I see three people have put Callisto. A great episode, but I would never recommend it as an opener because it would spoil some of the rest of the first season when they went back to watch it.

What does it spoil that's not getting spoiled anyway during season two?

If I remember correctly, there are hints of someone chasing them during season one and Callisto is where you find it is her.

Ah, that. That's about five seconds near the beginning of The Greater Good, which comes just before Callisto. And which is one I'd show to new people anyway.
