For the purpose of Buffy-slashfic writing, of course...

Assume that Kennedy is in the 18-22 age range when she appears in the show. That'd mean that she hit her teens somewhere between 1993 and 1997. So which TV show(s) would she have been obsessing over? A few years earlier and it might have been Twin Peaks or 21 Jump Street, for example.

ETA: Would it be entirely unreasonable to say that she somehow got hooked on Happy Days?

around 1997 it may have been Gilmore Girls or Felicity, I'm pretty sure both those programs were on air and popular, though I'm not american, so ymmv.

1997 is too early for GG or Felicity, and Felicity followed Buffy in the WB's timeslot so that would kind of incest-y.

Beverley Hills 90210 was still on the air then. Round about seasons 3 to 8 in that time period. (of 10 seasons altogether).

Then there is always Friends, Rosanne and ER that were all huge.

This might help :

None of those series feature specific cars or motorcycles in any noticeable fashion, do they?

well 90210 had a few. Brandon had an old american heavy metal convertible of some description and various people had porsches, bmws etc. So any expensive car reference might work.

Also just ending at the beginning of your time frame was Dougie Howser MD and Saved by the Bell.

One thing to consider - apparently american TV likes to rerun things alot so you could always reference Knightrider, Streethawk, Dukes of Hazzard, Miami Vice etc. as these should be familiar to any kid growing up in that time frame.

Happy hunting!

another thought. The earlier stuff (knightrider etc.) probably would have been consider quite naff by that generation... so it might not be suitable for your purposes after all!

My current thinking is Fonzie's motorcycle (or, rather, one of them) from Happy Days. I think that's close enough to being a universally recognized USAnian cultural icon.

Not much was made of Fonzie's motorcycle from Happy Days, his big accessories were jacket and comb.

Jessie rode a motorcycle on "Full House", and the unconventional family with lots of strong female characters might appeal to Kennedy.

Jerry on "Seinfeld" had a spiffy classic convertible that he did not appreciate, to the point of his mechanic stealing the car so it would not be mistreated.

Or maybe she would like Prince's custom Goldwing motorcycle from _Purple Rain_, a movie channel staple.

Tim Allen in Home Improvement was a classic car buff and was working on a car over a couple of seasons.

Jonathan Taylor Thomas was reason enough for some girls to watch.
