Randomness

We've been re-watching Xena lately, and just reached "A Necessary Evil". Callisto is such a wonderful villain.

Why do people bother to write fic where two thirds of the text are verbatim lines from an episode of the show in question?

And why do people insist on writing fic for shows and don't bother to research even the most mindbogglingly basic facts of the show, such as the title character's name?

No, BtVS fic where the writer decided that "Buffy" was just a nickname.

Must admit I've made that mistake at least once, having somehow got the "her birth certificate name is Elizabeth" meme from some other fanfics.

An honest mistake is one thing. This person actually said in the intro that she suspected she was wrong but couldn't be arsed to look it up. Which is of course a valid choice, but not that one that'll get much respect from me.

In some cases, probably because the act of writing is more important (at that moment) than the kata of Getting It Right.
I can first-and-final-draft, but re-editing myself is torture.
