[livejournal.com profile] communicator wrote about the "Mo Movie Measure". Which is this:

  1. there are at least two female characters with names,
  2. who talk to each other
  3. about something other than a man.

So, since there seem to be no disasters going on and the builders are preventing any concentration anyway, I thought I'd look through the movies I own, have watched and will admit to owning and see which ones pass or fail.

Now, whatever makes me think that your film collection is biased towards canonical Lesbian couples...

Actually, half of those I bought because Jenny wanted them. Blow Dry Fucking Åmål and Tipping the Velvet aren't movies I would've bought for myself, since they're mostly about the kind of problems I find depressingly everyday. Not that I minded watching them (Tipping the Velvet in particular), but generally I prefer movies where the women are less victim-like.

Now, be fair. Tipping the velvet is the BSWs fault, not mine!

Absolutely fascinating, thanks. I think there are 'fails' for two reasons there - films about men (like Fight Club) and camp films where all the roles are deliberately stereotypes (like Galaxy Quest or Dark City).

I ought to start collecting films in which straight guys have a snog.

Straight actors or straight male characters?

I think the only one I have that would fit is The Prophecy.

Good question, and I'm not sure. I know BTW that this is a silly and ultimately self-defeating preference. But then that's the essence of desire in a way isn't it? desire for what melts away as fast as it can be realised.
