I just bought a Christmas present for her 18-month-old son.

A drum.

That is *evil*!

Maybe she'll make you keep it at your place, for use when they come and visit. That'll teach you. :-)

My only defense is that it was the least evil trademarked gender-stereotype-reinforcing thing I could find in the entire toy store.

Good to see that you are turning into the sort of uncle the children love :)

That was kind of you to give a present.

I want to wish you a Merry Christmas. Also the best wishes to Jenny. Do you play Christmas music on the harp too?

I bought a tambourine for my nephew - he's about the same age. And for his first birthday, I bought him a toy phone with several different ringing noises.

The way I figure, when they're that age the parents never get a moment's silence anyway, so I may as well encourage the kid to enjoy himself.

Oh boy! They don't even have batteries that you can remove...

Very probably

Hehe, that is the prerogative of the childless/childfree uncles and aunts.

As a mother to a wee one myself (although luckily enough he is too young for drums yet) I can only imagine that that gift will magically very soon break..... Have you any idea how persistent small children can be when given something they really really like??? :-) Let just hope he is more for books and fairytales than music! :-D For the sanity of your sister....
