Last night we went to see Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest with LHT. She and [livejournal.com profile] jennyaxe had decided that since it was opening night, they wanted to dress up. So they both looked even lovelier than usual, and I bothered to put on a tie (scary, I know).

The movie was a spectacle. Huge impressive sets, oodles of special effects, over the top fight scenes, flamboyant characters, it had it all. It even had a not too bad plot to string the showpieces together. The plot didn't make the slightest bit of sense, but it was good enough that one didn't notice it at all at the time.

Some things were just too silly, like the Gatling cannons. Some were quite repulsive, like the whole racist cannibal thing. There still are way too few female characters. And the bit near the end when the Kraken sprays ropy white gunk all over Sparrow was a bit revoltingly suggestive. I mean, Sparrow said his true love was the sea, but...

Yeah, plot was confusing and silly. But I did like the effects, and it was good for a few laughs.
