Right. We're back from Scotland. We had an absolutely fantastic time. I like Scotland better every time I go there. It's like England, but much better.

This time, we first spent a day just walking around Edinburgh. Which was nice. Then we went off to spend a week with a whole bunch of witches (over 200 of them). This was totally amazing, but kind of exhausting. Being constantly active for about 21 hours out of every 24 for a week has at least me feeling a bit wrung out afterwards. Quite a few of the witches hung around Scotland afterwards as well, so we ended up spending more time with them instead of meeting up with LJ people. Sorry about that, LJ people. So in the last few days (after some heavy-duty sleeping had been done) we saw a bit of Glasgow (rainy), the Glencoe area (rainy, and oh so pretty) and a harp manufacturer (way neat! They showed us the workshop!) up there. On the way back to Edinburgh from Clencoe (which was not actually the location of the harp makers, but the closest place I can actually spell) we tried stopping in a place called Callander, which is one of the cutest little towns I've ever seen, but everything had already closed so it wasn't much fun.

Then we lazed around some more, drove down to Newcastle and took a ferry home. Or, well, to Gothenburg. We drove the last 500-odd kilometers from there.

I think we have a different definition of pretty or I'm getting my highland massacres mixed up, it has been nearly 30 years since I was in that area. Lonely, imposing and spooky are the words I would use to describe it. I may be mixing it up with the great moor of Ranach.

I like lonely, imposing and spooky. Although I won't agree that it fits the first of those. You could hardly drive for ten minutes without seeing a house or something.

I probably am thinking of Ranach Moor, that was empty of human habitation from Horizon to horizon. it took us 10 mins to cross it and we never saw even the ruins of a house.

When it comes to empty, I'm comparing to the north of Sweden where you can drive an entire day without seeing any human habitation.

I think the Scottish would agree with at least half of that. :-)

Didn't [livejournal.com profile] mevennen just do something similar in Scotland? Although I'm assuming that was a different event, since looking back through her posts, her Scottish trip seemed to be a while ago.

The thing we went to is kind of exclusive (some would say elitist, I guess), and I don't recognise her from the picute on her LJ info page. So I'll guess that what she went to was Witchfest in Glasgow.

How nice to read that you had a wonderful time in Scotland.
And I think there is beautiful nature in Scotland.
