We just watched The Scorpion King, which I bought on DVD for £3 a long time ago. It was a high-budget B movie with a script that tried really, really hard to hit every cliché in the book and then some. On that level, it succeeded quite well.

If the title role had been played by Lucy Lawless instead of The Rock, it would've been the Best Movie Ever.

The Scorpion King, um, rocks. It's great. It knows exactly what it is, and doesn't care.

I think that's the common thing of all truly great B-movies. "Highlander" works pretty much the same way, for example. The plot is crap, the effects aren't very good, the acting is passable at best, but somehow the whole manages to be an amazing amount of fun.
