For those of you who found the previous entry hard to understand:
We (as in the place I work for) are trying to hire a storage/backup admin to replace a guy who's quitting. Such a person would have to know at least some basic stuff about storage/backup administration. Such as at least the name of one of the major software suites in the field.
Today, I've been going through a stack of applications, and one of them even mention anything storage-related. I am very disappointed. Considering how crap the IT job market is, I did expect better. Much better.
Not to mention the dismal gender ratio. Only a tenth of the applications are from women. Granted, all of those are better than average. One gets the impression that a lot of the men has gone "Well, why not?" and sent in an application just for the heck of it while the women only has applied if they actually have some skills. Perhaps not the ones we ask for, but at least some, and more often than not in a related field. Not to mention that they all ask for less pay than the men do. Which is good, because the few male applicants who are at all interesting ask for more than I'm allowed to give them.
Oh well. Tomorrow I'll read through about half the applications more carefully and then decide which ones to call for interviews. If any.
