If you haven't seen that already, this year's Nobel Prize for Literature goes to Doris Lessing. Which is definitely the first time ever it's gone to a writer I've not only heard of, but actually read and liked several books from.

I had a similar reaction though it is the second time for me since I read, and liked, a book by Gabriel García Márquez even before he got the prize.
