Monsters in the Closet!

Wake up.

Kill the screensaver and have a look at the mail.

Notice strange scratching sound. Dismiss it as one of the cats being silly.

Read more mail. Notice that the spam filter ate all the night's spam with no false positives. Yay!

Strange scratching sound gets louder and more insistent.

Go make tea (for me) and coffee (for the wife).

Strange scratching sound stays in the same place. Not cat-like behaviour, particularly not when there's a human in the kitchen.

Go back to the computer while the tea steeps and the coffee boils.

Notice that the strange scratching sounds are accompanied by weak mewling sounds.

Remember that I got a clean towel from the linen closet last night.

Go open the linen closet.

Notice a furry lightning bolt leave the linen closet and head for the litterboxes.

You left the cat in.... that's just something I'm going to have to accept, yes?

Mind you, I have more than once carried a pile of washing from one room to another without noticing there was a cat in it. They think it's like a bus, now.

I didn't intentionally leave the cat in -- he jumped in, I closed the door, and I spent fifteen minutes going "Where's the cat?"

Our fridge is small enough and the cats large enough that I think I'd notice if one of them jumped in. I usually have to push one of them away as soon as I open the fridge door anyway...
