For the Utena fans out there: I have Rose Collections 1 and 2. Now I want more. I've found things called "Revolutionary Girl Utena #3: The Black Rose Blooms" and "Revolutionary Girl Utena: Impatience and Longing" avaialble on DVD (as well as the movie). Which, if any, of those do I want and, if both, in which order?

Well, I'd buy The Black Rose Blooms, and then Impatience and Longing, which might not be out yet, I'm not sure. But those are the next two installments of the series. I'd wait to buy the movie, or buy it and then wait to watch it until you've seen the entire series, because it makes no sense without having watched the entire thing.

Definitely wait on the movie... it's not even in the same continuity as the TV series (sort of an alt-uni thing), but does spoil some of the themes of the series.

Nice to see you enjoy Utena so far... it only gets darker and darker. :-D Wait till you get to Episodes 30-33...

Sean! Hi! Fancy seeing you here.

You want a code? I have about five, just sitting here twiddling their little thumbs.

You want both. ::bounces around:: They're coming out on DVD? Thank goodness.. my awful awful fansubs need replacing.

The Black Rose sequence is my favourite story arc by far. That's when it really began to split form the manga and become dark and deep and - oh - Shiori! I must finish my Juri/Shiori stories...

I'm not sure you *do* need to watch the show before watching the movie, which is separate, and was a staple at lesbigay film festivals a while back. It might spoil you a little for Akio - but then, movie Akio and tv Akio are very different beasts. If you do get the movie, bear in mind that just because someone dies in the movie doesn't mean they die on tv. ::g:: It's a separate retelling.

The movie is pretty enough to make your teeth hurt, and has Utena and Anthy kissing madly, but it also has movie-Anthy, who doesn't charm me the way tv Anthy does.

btw, do you have cable and unlimited downloads? There's a lovely fanvid of the movie I'd recommend, if the download doesn't kill you.

I work for an ISP. Bandwidth is not a problem. If the file is really insanely huge I'll download it to my laptop at work (where I've got 100Mbit/s to the national backbone net) and carry it home :-)

Lucky you... ~jealous~ Download is a real problem for us. I can get... one music video a month, If I'm lucky. And we pay through the nose.

"Is it Real" at the yuricon website is a wonderful taster for the movie, and its pretty pretty weirdness. They have another one there, "Gravity of Love," which is very nice, but has more spoilers, I think... http://videos.yuricon.com

While I'm looking at my anime links ::g:: "Love is Flowers" is the most disturbingly wonderful Utena video I've ever seen, for the tv show. I don't think it has any spoilers, and, um, Saiyonji, Touga and Brittney Spears. I force people to watch this in disturbing fangirl style.

Yes, I know that the net situation in Australia isn't much fun. Doesn't seem to be much you can do about it either, since I hear the same thing from ISP people down there.

I'll have a look at the videos during the day, or something like that.

If downloading isn't a problem for you, I suggest trying to find all the fan sub eps on Kazaa. Or you can try to find VCDs on E-Bay if you'd rather go that route. I found all my fan subs on Kazaa. Definitely get all the DVDs, but shop around other online stores besides Amazon.com. They're charging way too much for them. It does get a bit dark as the series moves along, but it's very, very worth it.

Kazaa is only for Windows, and I don't do Windows. And Amazon are spammers, so I won't touch them with anything less than a cattle prod.
