The LJ style system is a bit clumsy, isn't it? And it certainly could use a lot more (and better) documentation. It's pretty frustration the way nearly all pages with any real documentation refer back to this totally useless page "for more information".

It's an amazingly useless page. It doesn't tell you anything you need to know, neither does it have links to pages that would be helpful. The variable list page at http://www.livejournal.com/developer/varlist.bml is a lot more useful.
