Actually, I think you have to go all the way back to 1987 and the Star Cops episode "Conversations With the Dead" to find something similarly science-fictionally good.

Yeah, Learning Curve is good, the plot idea is really nice.

I also like the way it shows a softer side of Jack, although I don't remember if it's the first time or not (it's been a year or four since I last saw season one to three).

No, I mean SF that tries to think about social impact of technological change. This ep was hardly stellar in its execution compared to written SF, but notable in media SF because it gave it a serious try.

Well what I meant was, I think of BSG as scifi, but some would think of it as space fantasy. But BSG is incredibly good either way :). So in my estimation that episode woudl not be the only good scifi on tv. Have you seen BSG?

Yes, I've seen BSG, I'll certainly buy the DVDs pretty soon (money situation should be a bit better starting next month) and I'm really looking forward to its second season. So far it's a good story, with interesting characters and SF that's good enough that it doesn't get in the way. There hasn't, IMAO, yet been any episode that stood out as SF, but that is mostly because the main characters' society is closely modeled on our own in order to make it easier to sympathize with their situation... This may well change in a hurry if we get to see more of the Cylon society, which from what we've seen is at least very different from the human one.

BSG is also nearly unique in that it's an SF series that seems to try to deal seriously with religion. This fascinates me a lot, and I hope they can keep doing it without falling into trekkish monoculturalism.
